Constantine the Great

Not In RIC

Here are some coins not listed in Roman Imperial Coinage volume VI or VII, or coins that I believe are significant variations. I have found that once you really start collecting a certain issue, you can find quite a few unlisted coins. It is still nice to find an unlisted one, though! If the coin is an unlisted officina or legend break, I have given its RIC number (even if RIC did not note every officina, we know to anticipate them). For other coins, I have given a RIC number where the coin should be (roughly!) in RIC. Remember that these coins may very well be listed in some other references, just not in Roman Imperial Coinage.

I have not updated this page since 2008, however I still post unlisted coins on the Late Roman Bronze Coin Forum

"This coin obviously induced Voetter (NZ 1909, Atlas, Tafel 5) to regard this mark as the first of the Gloria exercitus series. The coin, however, does not illustrate any transition from the Providentiae coinage, where Constantine already earlier had been accorded the obv. legend with MAX AVG. As it is difficult to accept this coin of the Gloria 2-standard as depicting Constantine II as Augustus, it should be classified as an inexplicable irregularity."     RIC VII pg 558
